Social Studies
Test: September
10th
In first grade
our tests are very straight forward. The first graders are tested on materials
we have reviewed very thoroughly in class. Please go over this study guide with
your child. If you have play doh at home you could have them build a community
and have them describe what they have added. Please contact me with any
questions or concerns. Thanks, Mrs. Clements

- Your child should know the name of our planet,
continent, country and state. On the back of this sheet is a copy of the song
we sing in class to help us remember these facts. Try singing together at
home!
- Your child should be able to orally define the term
neighborhood. A neighborhood is a place where people live, work and play.
- Your child will need to know that St. Clement is in the
city of St. Bernard.
- Have your child explain the difference between wants and
needs. Examples: A video game is a want because I don’t need it to
survive. Lunch is a need because I have to eat to survive.
- Your child will need to be able to define a volunteer as
someone who doesn’t get paid for their work.
- The first graders will be asked to draw at least 3 types
of transportation on their test. Examples: train, plane, car, truck, scooter,
bike etc.
- Your child will need to know the differences between
jobs that provide goods and jobs that provide a service.
Examples of jobs that
provide a good: farmers, construction workers, bakers
Examples of jobs that
provide a service: doctor, teacher, priest, secretary, nurse
